I am in a bootcamp and the current time and would like create my own alliance and invite a few friends. How do I go about doing that? I have looked through the menus, and couldn't find anything.

It would be wiser to get one of your friends to create a tribe and when he creates a tribe make him chose the create a new alliance option then join him :)

I think the easiest way is to request a merge to an empty alliance.

^ Joe's got it right. Merge to an empty, then send your friends the link, along with alliance # and password.
