is there a way to hook a monitor from an older dell to my hp pavillion laptop? my screen was mysteriously smashed yesterday while i was out and i have a lot important thing stored on it. i was hoping to use a monitor but i was sure if it is possible and how to do so. any help would be much appreciated thank you | |

I'm pretty sure something like that should be possible since my wife has used laptop+screen for a while.
Did you try plugging the monitorplug into your laptop (maybe needs some special cable inbetween?) |

yea especially if you have a newer hp, the laptop should have the same type of VGA port as a CPU so you should be able to attach the monitor no problems :).

It might be possible that you need some sort of 'converter(?)' (there are several types so find out which you need) inbetween if you have an old type monitor but they cost only like a few euros in a shop.

You can also just get the hard drive out and place it into another computer :-)
(but ask someone with a screw driver to do it for you instead of someone with a hammer, it might get smashed) |

Pretty much all laptops have VGA out port
Look for this http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcS3iBVFyFvz3w1eCdKnYMJTdoUbPe0voj3NCaJG2-v2swhSdSUZxw you will probably have the VGA cable attached to the old monitor or loose, don't worry about the screws hols, there just for support. plug it into your laptop and it should find the monitor when the laptop is on, the resolution may be messed up but you'll be able to access the data. Makes sure the laptop is open so you can us the keyboard :P |

I use chrome and havn't noticed any issue with it so far but could be something to do with plug-ins ur running in Chrome. If you have another browser on your computer you could try it on there and see if you still have the same issue.

geek squad may suck but i priced it at 6 different places to get fixed and all were more expensive, i bought the laptop at best buy so i tried them so far they are the cheapest by me. i am going to try 2 more places and see how they fair price wise first.

yeah i thought about it.
but the thing is i have one time purchases of software (drm converter, cd's from itunes and imesh, and a software that allows me to watch any football, ice hockey, or baseball game that is on tv without buying nfl network nhl network or mlb network). i have to get these off of my laptop and onto a zip drive so i can install without having to purchase again. |

Buy new laptop, take out the old harddrive and put it in ur new one, copy files and enjoy the extra storage space.
