I am EM. AND I LOVE ORKFIA. I have played this game for like.. ever.

Even when you think I'm gone, I'm not. I make a little tribe out in the boondocks, under some random name so I won't be bothered, and don't come out of my shell until I feel like playing seriously.

ALAS I HAVE DISCOVERED WHY ORKFIA HAS A SMALL PLAYERBASE, WHILST INFERIOR GAMES HAVE THOUSANDS.

Couple things actually. Domain changes and obscurity are of course huge detriments to any small player-ran game. But those can't be avoided. And can only be overcome by spamming of more popular sites and forums to try to get more traffic.

To me, the true reason why new players don't keep playing is the instant playability. I noticed this recently when I tried a few new games. One is called Imperia Online. A rather cookie-cutter game, that kept me playing for over an hour to start, and keeps me logging in, is that it caught me quick. In AatW, when you sign up, you have maybe 2 minutes of playtime before it's back to waiting. Imperia Online on the otherhand had a “stream-lined” into process, with instant ticks and rewards that kept you able to play for much longer before you have to start sitting around waiting for ticks.

People are crude and impatient, and when they find a game like orkfia, that they might love, they don't give it a chance.

So I think we need a 24-tick new player tutorial. Meaning, with restrictions, allow a player to manually create ticks on their own time. It would give them enough time instantaneously to try the game out, make a couple attacks, do an explore, something to extend their first login time so they can get hooked the way we do. Of course obviously there is a scope of abuse, which would make it more reasonable to restrict attacks and ops to one-per-tribe-per-tutorial. Meaning you can't keep attacking the same tribe multiple times.

I don't know. It's christmas eve. And I was just sitting here playing Imperial online and it made me think about AatW more :(

classic OOP strats but with update button ;) like it was between ages

I agree, people have literally have no desire to learn/read about something these days. Everything must be handed to them on a plate which is a shame.

But back to the point.. Wasn't there talk of a tutorial thing being added anyway? Im sure it could be implemented in that 'un-live' version of the game with say 5min tick's. Players could hit bot tribes which refill acres and citz so they get a feel until they hit the 1k acres and choose to go live, with a brief explanation as to how the 'tick system' works in live. And of course normalize their tribe to 5k fame yada yada... so there is no unfair advantage.

- Introduce ingame automatic teaching system for new players, eventually including some bot tribes etc... If this can be done earlier, all the better but I can imagine this is a lot of work to code.

From Dev. It's scheduled for age 44.

Can't wait to see the final production. I sense either Fly or Flop here. :D Hoping for Fly!

Bolle, December 2011

the Fly part is that we'll do all we can to make it proper. The Flop part is the fact that it's all done with coders who do it voluntarily, so we might not make the schedule.

I hope everyone has noticed how all these things that keep popping up are already on Dev's timeline. So far, we've kept it - except that the market hasn't been coded yet. When the market is coded, take it as a sign that everything will be alright in the end [:p]

Sweet, December 2011

Sounds great realy great job guys :)

[EM], December 2011

I didn't mean flop as in not done in time, I meant that it won't “work as intended”

scarlo2, December 2011

EM, I didn't realize you could brown nose yourself. You've taught me something today.

[EM], December 2011

what? o_o

[EM], January 2012

Gah soo boring -_- DEV STAFF! PLEASE HELP THIS GAME QUICK!

Bolle, January 2012

You got the roles wrong. It's the coders that actually change the game [:p]

[EM], January 2012, edited

Well they don't code willy nilly.. Dev steers them in the right direction. Right now they're being led into an iceberg.

[EM], January 2012

Though to be frank, not saying it's completely dev's fault.. it's a long-standing downward spiral began by Martel :|

rEdL|nE, January 2012

Death to Martel xD

Bolle, January 2012, edited

by that metaphor we're halfway into the iceberg and still haven't grasped our boat is sinking.

That is, if I interpret your words to mean that so long as AatW stays infinite, it's an iceberg.

[EM], January 2012

With that metaphor, then Martel must be the captain of the Italian cruise ship who bailed out while passengers were still onboard.

Bah.

You can tell they aren't american. Our captains would have gone down with the ship.. just like in Titanic. Hollywood is truth.

CecilvonBismarck, January 2012

titanic captain was supposed to be british

In that case, you have to explain what exactly has happened after Martel left that equals “hitting an iceberg”

[EM], January 2012

We're still in the process.. takes a while to sink. Bolle is probably the gay dude playing cello on the stern.

CecilvonBismarck, January 2012

so, does that make me the idiot who gets on board after the ship starts sinking?

bloodball-Coach, January 2012

i think EM has a very very good point. i do support an idea like this!

sanzi, January 2012

And we, as players, are required to spread word of our awesome game!

Bolle, January 2012

If only we could sink as dramatically as the Titanic rather than rust away in harbor [:p]

CecilvonBismarck, January 2012

we could attach several tons of c-4 and set it?[:D]

Sonix, January 2012

Lol, you really love bombs don't you Cecil
